does anyone use H380 for medium bore rifles such as the 35 whelen or the 9.3X62 or similar cartridges? Someone worked up a load for a cast boolit of 285grs in the 9.3 using imr4895 and H380, and at someones advice, I will likely get better accuracy with a slower powder than 4895, so I am thinking that the H380 loads will be ok, H380 is slower than r15,4064 and 4320 and win 748. I am looking to get to 2100fps and no more with this load. so if anyone uses H380 and can re-affirm that I picked an alright powder for my goals, or warn me if it isn't a good choice I would appreciate it! thanks a lot-Travis

Travis Barnes Manual #1 chose it as one of their powders for their 2 bullet weights in the 9.3x62.
250 grain- H380 start 55.0=2407 fps, max 59.0=2582 fps
286 grain-H380 start 53.0=2319 fps, max 56.0=2451 fps
I would develop my loads with a magnum primer and watch for any delay in ignition, if so use some dacron, or another filler of your choosing.

thank you for your help, some one did a quickload in this powder for me (285gr boolit) and it had 52grs of 380-2110fps. so we are very close!, I was thinking of starting at 49grns to be safe and working up to 2100fps, which is as fast as I care to go, as long as accuracy is still good! thanks again-Travis

CORRECTION it was 55 grs of h380 for 2096fps to be exact, imr4895 was 52grs for 2110fps.

With a 285 at 2100, you are recreating the the grand old 9.3x57 in the dress of its slightly younger and bigger sister cartridge. It should be a great load.

yup, that should do all I need it to do, and if I ever go to Africa, I can use some woodleighs or swifts.
