Preliminary verdict on Old E

Back from the range, 10 shots no wiping.
70 gr./ weight FFG Old Eynford,.43 Compression, .030 veg. wad, 20:1 alloy, Lyman # 457125 boolit, SPG lube
100 yards, off bench, 9" plate.
First shot, clean barrel fouler ticking plate @ 7:00, second shot ticking plate @ 5:00. Adjusted sight from .34 to .35 and had at it.
Shot at 9:00 was me, shot towards 12:00 I'll claim too, (I have floaters in my eyes, they suck)
The rest, speak for them selves..............202217 That is a 45-70 case for scale.

Try blow-tubing.
10 shots, with no fouling control is not the best way to confirm accuracy.
3-4 DEEP breaths after EACH shot, and those groups should tighten up even more.

I forgot to mention that there were 5 breaths thru my blow tube between each shot............oops

Lehigh Valley Lube is awesome!!!!!

It is a kind of soap derived from pine tar oils.

I use it to wash my blackpowder guns, and when the guns get dry after washing, I apply it on all interior and exterior surfaces. The result is that there is absolutely no corrosion/rust in any of my guns ( I live in S Florida, hot and humid).

I also use it to moist the patches when shooting round balls and when using conicals, I swab the barrel with it after each shot.

It is for sure the best product I have ever used in muzzleloading.

By the way, if you google it, you will find scientific comparative studies on its anti-corrosion qualities.

Depends upon what you are shooting at. I don't know how much experience Knarley has shooting black powder cartridge rifles but assuming he is not highly experienced, his effort is not bad and will improve with practice. Not every one has 1000 yard range off the front porch and my eyes make fine groups difficult at any range.

You have to get your zeros and sight settings at short range, and 100 yds is a good start. If you're impatient, you can waste a lot of perfectly good ammo trying to find the target at longer ranges if you don't have settings for shorter ones.

Don't ask me how I know this.

Olde E is good stuff. And you can shoot for a long time at mid-range and longer with that 457125 boolit before you decide you "neeed" something more elaborate and expensive.

Knarley, I too have the floaters and they are a nuisance. I have one in my right eye that looks like a fly crawling around on the front lens of my spotting scope. They will never go away or so I am told by the eye doctor. I do have two questions. First, what rifle were you shooting and second, why is a man from a northern state, [about as far north as you can get] wearing a southern artillery hat?

I am hoping so, still forgetting to check the new bubble on the front end on the gun. I am making progress, and enjoying the time at the range too.

You can almost not worry about the bubble. That is the least of it. It does come into play at the very long ranges and fro the most demanding work but you will not really notice if you try to keep your rifle at 12 with out a bubble v the bubble.

Floaters are the pits. Had them all my life. Just have to look around them. Grateful to see, could be worse:drinks:
