Taurus has a $40.00 rebate going on these right now. Can get one delivered for $244.00 ($204.00 after rebate).

Been wanting to replace my Charter Arms Undercover for a while now, but they're pretty expensive.

Anyone have one? Like it/hate it?

I've had one for a few years now; not the FS but the blued steel version. It's been 100%; no problems at all.

My input is dated--probably about 1990 I bought one for my wife and one for my daughter. Got consecutive serial numbers. I got them in stainless, because riding around in a lady's purse can be rough. We had a target practice session, and I was so impressed with the 85's construction and accuracy that I bought a third for myself. Too late, though, to get another consecutive number. Not only did I carry mine a lot, but I used it in my business as a sales sample and sold many more, some stainless, some blue, right up to about 2005. No one ever had a complaint. When I bought the three our family has they were running about $202 retail.

They are worth 200 bucks no doubt. I've had one for years and it hasn't given me any issues. Accurate enough and a good pocket gun. I had 2 605s and can't say much good, both went down the road after going back to taurus and developing the same issues. The 85 has always shot good and solid though.

Thanks, all!

Ordered one.

Now I've got something to do with all this 38 SPL brass!

I had one years ago and developed quite a relationship with that revolver. Almost like it had some character and soul!

Eeek. We'll see what this one looks like when it gets here.

Last year I bought one of the newish ones with the bad parkerized finish and the new weird bull-looking rubber grips. Compared with the old blued or stainless 85s with the wood stocks, it looked terrible. But it functioned perfectly and was easy to shoot accurately. I couldn't stand looking at it, though, so I sold it.

My CCW piece is one. Had it maybe five years now. It gets carried a lot more than it gets shot, which I need to start shooting it more.

I have put maybe 1K of practice rounds through it since I got it, perhaps more. It always works, is about as accurate as a snub in my hands is going to be. Mine must have some kind of alloy frame because it is light, but says on it that it is rated for +P ammo. I don't see how you could go wrong with one for $200.

Had one for 5 years without a single problem. It shot 6" left at 25yds but dead on at sd ranges. It was the blued Ultralight 3".

Had a Model 85 Ultralite. It sat in a bag for about 12 years because a spring failed in the firing pin return. I put a new spring in and shot the fool out of it. My Dad wanted a .38 for the house, and he and I just got done building an addition onto the house. My thanks to him was to give him the gun. He likes it a lot. It is a good accurate gun!

I have a stainless 605 (same thing as the 85, in .357). Mine's never given me any trouble.

Can you get a 3" Model 85 for the same price? That would be nice.

(Had an Undercover, too, for a little while. Not nearly so good an experience with that.)

Thanks for the feedback on yours!

Not sure. I saw the offer on slickguns and jumped on it. Didn't really look to see what else is covered by the rebate.

I have an older blued one that is way more accurate at 25 yards than I think any snub nose could ever be.

Thanks, Jack.

PSA... I'm glad they're out of stock, or I'd be picking up a blued brother for the one I just bought.

I have the 85 in SS. I noticed early it had rough matching in one cylinder throat so sent back and Taurus replaced no muss no fuss. I like the double action on it better than my S&W Model 36 and 642. It shoots very well. Like it a lot, it is surprisingly accurate with my WC loads.

I'm using the Lee 358-148-WC ahead of 3.4 grains Zip. Has worked well.

I just picked up a used 605 CIA, steel frame in 357. With the high blue finish.

LGS has his 85s and 605s on sale so I might just eat PBJs in September and grab me one!

they be addictive Taurus pistols that are genuine blueing.

True! That older deep blue finish they use to put on them was one of the best in the business. And that era had great revolvers made by Taurus as well.
