Hey guys,

I was very interested in buying a slug mold from a seller on the bay in Canada. He recommends a tail wad. Where can I buy wads like the one in the picture?

Thank you!

Too bad 3d printing is still on the pricey side

Ballistic products sells the slug wad unit. They might sell only the wad.

Search "plumbata" that is the name for a slug with attached wad.

Ballistic Products sells Gulandi slugs. Gulandi is who you want to call.

Those slug base combos are nice but the price is too much. Better off supporting uncle dino, like his stuff better.

I will start with them, thank you!

I did and have read about them, but did not find a source for the wads I seek. I'll keep looking!

Uncle Dino? Does he own fury custom bullets?

I was more interested in a solid nose slug as opposed to hollow point. But thank you!

Yes, furycustombullets. .Look at those plastic base slugs. VERY accurate. Hogs don't like em as nearby thread will attest. 50 cents a pop pretty cheap too.

I am sure those are great...but they are for rifled barrels only. I failed to mention mine is a smooth-bore Benelli Supernova Tactical.

You might try some of these from BPI:

http://www.ballisticproducts.com/HB12-12ga-x-8mm-Wad-Base-250_bag/productinfo/072HB12/

I tried to order some in Canada a couple of years ago and things got a little confused. Canadian BPI dealer hadn't seen them before and things got confusing for some reason. In the end I got distracted with other things and let it slide.

In any case, my application was for flat based slug then use a screw or stud to hold these on but you might make up a tube form that you can slide the slug into, fill the hollow base with hot melt glue then take one or two of these BPI gas seals with a screw through and slide it (them) into the tube form then let the glue harden. That should hold them on securely and centered. A bit tedious but it should work.

How you make out with that mold I'm thinking in getting one and did you ever find those wads have you ever asked the seller

Hi Longbow, that's a bit more work than I wanted to do, unfortunately. But, thank you for the suggestion!

Yeah, me too but it isn't that hard and it works... at least the hot melt glue tail works. I've as yet to try the gas seals but still want to. That should be easier than casting on a hot melt glue tail.

I have so little access to stuff locally that I make do where I can't get something. I've been looking for nice wads for Brenneke style slugs but so far no go. Those BPI gas seals are the best candidates I've seen so far.

Mind you if that Russian outfit sells tail wads of one sort or another for the Gualandi style slugs or Tusker with tail, I'd be inclined to order a mould and several thousand wads. That would last for a while.

The Hammerhead slugs are another similar option. Moulds and wads are available through Slugs 'R Us though they say they are not suited for smoothbore. Not sure why since the wad is long and stays attached but if balance and drag aren't right then accuracy won't be good.

Nothing is ever easy!

I do not think that Gualandi will ever sell their slug wads as components only.
If I had that mold I would make a new base pin and make the following wads to fit, with petals removed.

Yup, nothing is easy...that's been my life for the past 7 years!

I appreciate your input, as you always leave options to consider, Longbow.

If I had the skills and tools to make a new base pin for the mold, I would! Maybe I could just use an adaptation of Longow's suggestion with these wads...trim the "X" down a bit, fill the slug base with hot glue, mate them together, and voila!

Thanks for the link to those wads!

I tried a similar wad that had a cushion leg very much like the Gualandi DGS slug wad but no joy there! The cushion leg was not as sturdy so distorted ruining accuracy. I don't recall how I attached them though.

The wad in the link elvis posted looks like a better choice. It could be attached as you suggest by cutting off petals and shortening the "X" post then gluing in the hollow base.

That would be easy to try and if successful a simple solution.

Great suggestion!

Disperser wad leg isn't strong enough. Wad will shift.. Been there, done that. D

I'm working out a shipment of the tail wads from one of my contacts in Russia that joined my Buck and slug reloaders facebook page. They're gonna run about 33 cents a piece.

So, are you going to offer some for sale? If so, you can count me in for about 100.

The slug-loading community has been waiting for a Brenneke-style slug/wad combo for years! It just can't be all that difficult to tool up and put these things out by the thousands!! And yet, we wait..........:???:

What is (are) your typical load recipe(s)?

longbow

I must say I do like that slug... except I would rather have it in solid or at least not such a big HP.

If I had a rifled gun I'd order a mould. I might anyway, I am working back around to working on my slow twist rifled choke tube.

I noticed a #4 buckshot fits in there perfect....
