My older brother has an older 1893 Marlin that he is willing to let go. It is a family piece that was owned by our dad and hasn't been shot much if at all. I got the Sedgley Springfield in 30-06 out of the collection and my brother got the Marlin in 30-30. Don't know who got the better deal but I've always wanted a lever action and this one is too nice not to take. Don't know much about the Marlin, only saw it once or twice when I was a kid but I do remember it has the case hardened receiver and full octagon barrel along with a carrying case.
Planning to pick it up next week, it's only a 450 mile drive up to Myrtle Beach from where I live and it will be good to see my brother after all this time. Hope it's worth it. ;)
Will be posting pictures once I get it home (when I know what I've got) and asking about loads for it.

Stop at a gun store on the way up or back and pick up some 3031 if you don't mind long grain powder. It is my go to powder for my Marlin 30-30's.

Have a Bass Pro and two other stores in the area that carry powder so I'll check them out. Should I drop the rifle off at a gunsmith to be checked out before hitting the range?

Lucky you. The takedown feature makes it a fairly rare example.

We also have a Marlin 1893 (circa 1903) in the family and it has been passed down several times now. It's a hoot to shoot and at 200 yards will regularly knock little targets about or ring the gong most every shot.

We limit its diet to the Lyman cast 311141 design, although it is certainly capable of handling any sane jacketed load too.

Pulled up some load data and it looks like 4895 will work with the 110 and 125 grain condom bullets I already have in the reloading room. Will try some mild loads first but I'm getting ahead, still need to get it home first.
