jwp475 and I went to Shady Grove, Florida three weeks ago to hunt piggies with an outfit called Florida Slam Outfitters. This was a free-ranging, fair chase boar hunt. It proved to be a tough hunt but well worth the effort. As some of you know, I have been itching to blood my .475 SRH and I finally got the opportunity. Took a 180-pounder with a shoulder shot at 80 yards after a long stalk. The hog went down like it had been hit with a ton of bricks.

Shot another one that we never recovered as it went into the really thick stuff and it was after 9:00 and nearly dark. It was mortally wonded and the offside shoulder was badly damaged. Bummer to lose the animal, but it happens unfortunately........

Here are some necropsy photos to illustrate the heavy damaged delivered by hardcast flat-nosed bullets. I shoot a 420 grain WFN that was designed by bfrshooter, that flies straight even at distance. I am very happy with the resuilts!

Here is the offside shoulder:

These are the two shoulders where you can clearly see the hole the WFN punched through.

And for more perspective as to the size of the hole, here is the shoulder with a .500 JRH round held up to it for comparison.

The two pistoleros........(but jwp cheated and used a rifle on the two hogs he shot! :D)

Looks like a fun time for all! I'd love to try hunting hogs some day. If you don't mind my asking, what does something like that cost per person?

kingstrider -- it is a lot of fun! I have hunted Florida quite extensively, but I highly recommend this outfit. Their rates are $150.00/day -- which gets you one hog and this is all inclusive: guide, skinning/caping, and any additional hogs are $100.00. So, two days and three hogs will run you only $400.00 -- plus he has a deal with a motel in town that runs $40.00/night and if there are two of you, it is a real bargain. Plus, it's a free ranging hunt so you are not killing pigs over feeders. I am looking forward to going back. If you go, tell them that I sent you!

Good shootin Witworth. like your pistol too.

I don't have the cash for custom stuff But I did get one of the first redhawks in 480 ruger.

P.S.

What kind of scope you have on that cannon?

Thank you, Gungrubber! It's a red dot (no magnification), not a scope -- an Ultradot 30 to be exact. It can handle the recoil and it's great in low-light situations. I am exceedingly happy with it!
