Winchester 74 trigger problem

I'm working on a Win 74 .22 rifle for a friend. The symptom is the trigger won't trip the searbar consistently. It's kind of a weird setup-the trigger also raises the tube magazine. Any one know the cure? I'm guessing the trigger is worn but it's pinned in the stock so I want to be sure before drastic measures....
