Hey all, been a while, Has anyone loaded the SPW wad 20ga with a .44 caliber cast bullet, I plan on loading a 240gr cast .44 cal bullet in a fiocchi 2 3/4", I will be using blue dot powder, 800x, and herco, the load data that comes with the hammerhead slug is 27grs for blue dot, 27grs 800x, and 26grs herco, the total ejection weight with the hammer head slug is 410grs, with the .44 slug the ejection weight would be around 300grs, do you think this would be a safe starting point? currently I load Ajay Maddens .575 round ball in a trap commander BPI wad in a Fiocchi 3" hull with 35grs of blue dot, I also swap the primer with a federal 209a primer, the total weight of the round ball load in wad is 330 335grs, any suggestions? thanks for the help. HC

Hey hatcreek, it has been a while. I just loaded and shot a bunch of Uncle Dino's 3/4 oz 20ga slugs, thread nearby. Using cheddite data and hulls/primers in 3" I started, with 30 grns then 32 grns Steel powder. In 2 3/4" I used 19 grn 800x (needs more) and 43 grns of Lil' Gun. Nice to see you back. http://www.furycustombullets.com/

PS, the 209a might be a little hot.

Thanks Hog, those uncle Dino's 3/4oz slugs look very tempting, I'll report back after I put together and fire some of these SPW's, just might have to order some of the 3/4oz slugs any load data avaiable? Thanks HC

I use steel shot load data. Those wads don't have a crush section anyway so a wad column with a little felt works well for most slug loads.
