Gluing an airsoft BB in you hollow point?

If so how did or didn't it expand on game?

I would assume BC is going to increase for a little flatter trajectory.

Fill the HP with silicone or beeswax...it'll open like a dinner plate if your Pb blend is right for your speed.

After WWII the Danes issued 1867 Remington Rolling Blocks to firemen to kill cattle in barn fires.
They used a 5mm steel ball in the tip to aid in expansion.

I'm guessing over expansion and less penatration would be the outcome on my boolit?

I dunno. This makes me think of a couple of things. First, the airsoft bb is plastic so it shouldn't mess with the flight of the bullet. But you don't want something so hard or substantial that it becomes part of the bullet and cuts a cleaner wound channel. The hollow point should be fine if, as OS OK says, the alloy is right for the velocity. So now I'm thinking, what if that is a 357 hollow point that I want to put in my 38 S&W and shoot it at 800 fps. Would that BB THEN help in the expansion? Time to go to the range, I guess....

Just spitwadding here..cause I never tried the BB idea but, I think it would allow air to be trapped in the HP cavity behind the BB, air will compress and absorb energy...at low velocities we need all the hydraulic pressure we can get in there...hydraulic pressure is what opens them up.
Same with clothing being caught in the HP...after one of the fellas here suggested hot melt, silicone or bees wax and I tried that...well, I just haven't wanted to fool around with a trick that works so well...

Those load numbers are what was listed in the book for load grains and velocities. I never got above about 760 FPS out of my little snubbie.
The one on the left hit the side of the water pipe I was shooting into so it didn't open very well but the rest of them, I thought were a success.
The white stuff in the end of the HP is white window caulk. The Pb/Sn mix was 8.4 BHN if I remember correctly.

Thanks OS OK, that is something I have been wanting to know for a good while now.

Great work and pictures!

If you ever wanted to know the 'how come' about HP's go check out a Y-Tube channel named...'Loads of Bacon', that ole boy is bringing science to the craft.

I've been watching loads of bacon for the last couple months. He dose some great tests! My boolit is 265g 44 cal devisator, AC COWW with a BH of 10.5 an hour after it dropped out of the mold. I PC and fan cooled them. I plan on using them out of my Ruger carbine and 77/44 on whitetail. I think the airsoft BB will aid in BC and tighten groupings. Just might make it a little more destructive. My plan is to load test without first and after what ever powder combo works best to add the airsoft BB and see if it opens or tightens my group. I would assume it will turn it into a ballistic tip characteristic. I remember a 45-70 govt load that looked like it. The bullet was black with a grey round tip.

Haven't decided if I'll silicone or superglue it in place.
