10-22 barrel toughness

Been wanting a doner barrel to drill and reline for making a barrel stub settup for my Encore.

Was wondering how tough my bull barrel 10-22 takeoff is if i drilled and relined to say 357 mag or maybe even 45 Colt and use it for my barrel stub experiment?

What say yee? Good enough steel for this idea or not?

i say no. for 2 reasons, first i doubt the barrel will handle the pressure. 2nd relining is generally considered ok for low pressure rnds, not high pressure.

IIRC Ruger 10/.22 barrels are 1137 http://www.steel-grades.com/Steel-Grades/Carbon-Steel/SAE-1137.html

Would work fine for .38 Special, .44-40 or .45 Colt, but I wouldn't use for .357 Mag.

Thanks for the replys. I really don't want a high pressure round as I contemplate doing a suppressor eventually on it as well. 45 Colt should be just about perfect for the kinda settup I am looking for. All subsonic rounds and heavy boolits (250 to 300 grains). If this take off 10-22 barrel is up to the task of being lined with the old Colt chamber it should work great for my desire.

I think I would simply buy the blank I needed and work from there. A used barrel drilling and sleeving to get started is a lot of extra work. The blank could be turned and fitted chambered and done. It can be done and the 22 bull barrel should have enough meat and strength for this but its still a lot of extra work just to use whats on hand. You will still need to purchase the liner and its cost probably isn't far from a barrel blank.
