Well I think I may qualify for the Leadhead Meatgetters!! As I write this there is a nice KY 8 pointer hanging from the frontend loader of my tractor. Well he has one tine broken off so maybe that only counts as a 7 pointer. I got to my stand about 3:10 pm. I was going to wait 10 od 15 minutes before I started using the grunt call. Well, no sooner than I had levered a round into the chamber a forkhorn appeared. I let him pass but when he had gotten a little ways down the hill I decided to grunt at him to see how he would react. He turned and started back towards me but then headed off down the hill. There may have been a doe with him. Then he or the doe? blew a couple of times and I thought they had caught wind of me. Then from behind me I heard something. I turned and saw the antlers. I readied my rifle. He gave me the ribs and I took the shot. The Big Bore 94 spoke and 252 grains of wheelweights from the 375 laid him low. He never moved a hoof.

I think you qualify because you have him hanging from the tractor bucket. :redneck:

Chrome Crow, if it snorted more than once, it was a doe. Bucks give one, and leave! Bucks are much more of an extended "whoosh", than the higher pitch doe snort.

Yes, I speak fluent deer.

Waksupi-"Yes I speak fluent deer". He was able to tell you what sex it was. Now had it been a sheep,he could have told you sex, age, weight, direction of travel, speed of travel and how long it would remain at the destination.

All of those are true. And, I can tell you, all of those sheep, big, little, short, fat, no matter what, are all heading for Texas. Direction of travel depends on where they started from. They will remain there, until Carpetman has finished with them.

The Load was 23g of IMR 4198 over a 375248 that was "Beagled" so boolits would drop at .380. I am getting right at 1500fps from this load and they'll all go into one hole at 50 yards. I'm using 38-55 brass and cci 250 primers. I'm going to try to put a picture in here.

Congratulations on the nice buck! I agree the .375 Winchester works well as a cast bullet hunting round. I used my #3 ruger in .375 Win. two seasons ago and blundered into one. I used the 375449 with aa2200 and he dropped in his tracks also.

Nicely done, Crow. Every time I see pics like this or read stories about the 375 Win. or 38-55, I get out the catalogs and start looking for a .375" barrel to fit that 336 action in the back end of the gun safe. One of these days.....

Al, in the last 4 years I've killed 11 deer, my life total runs on the order of 31 (I've lost count) I've shot them with 30-30's, 30-06, 243, 45-70, 20 guage slugs, 44 mags (revolver and rifle) 357 Maximum and 38-55. Of them all I like the 38-55 best. For short ranges (100-150 yards) it shoots plenty flat enough (start 'em at 1700 fps or so) carries plenty of bullet weight to penetrate and smacks 'em hard without beating the tar out of the shooter. I'd want a lot of practice for ranges of 125-200 yards, more to get a good honest feel of how the bullet flies as it begins to rainbow pretty good after 150.

This would definately be one of my "only rifle" choices. The last year with it has been a pleasure, pushing the Lee 379-250-RF along at 1100 fps or so for play and pushing the Lyman 379449 at 1700-1800 fps for work. This is, at least in my thinking, one of the best but most overlooked cartridges for woods/brush hunting. It has been around longer than we have, so I doubt it is going anywhere soon, but the sooner you have your's the longer you'll have to enjoy it's perfection. 10 years or so past I turned down an opportunity to buy a 375 AE'94. Remembering that has been especially hard this year.

Congratulations chromecrow, Nice deer, and a nice rifle.
