PID Ready Master Caster Option

So as some of you know I had to purchase a replacement MC because my friend borrowed it and basically doesn't have access to it any more. Long story.

So as I was on he phone with Magma I was asking if they could ship it without the thermostat. They said yes, it would be $45 cheaper.
While I was asking I asked if they could install the thermocouple too.
They said sure. Cost $25.
The MC arrived this morning.
Exactly how I wanted it.

They include the female plug for the thermocouple and include the connectors for power as well.

I think I will offer a option on the panels I build for PID ready MC.

Good to see you got your replacement machine.

That is basically how mine looks, the thermostat died on it, so in removed it and run it off a PID now. I replaced the thermostat part with a piece of sheet metal.

How many more oarts do you need to get it back up and running? i hope you didn't loose the automation part of it, those parts would add up pretty fast too.

Mine didn't even come with a fan :) I think it has to be one of the first models they made.

I have all the automation parts.
I just have to make the mods to the frame and lead pour bracket.
Hope to have it up and running in a week

Depends on when you order it.
Initially they told me two weeks.
When my buddy ordered it they had 4 order come in at the same time so it was three weeks

found out today when I did final hookup on my caster (yeah life has kept me busy) that the thermocouple provided my Magma is a J type.

No problem for the PIDs as this is configurable.
Problem is the extension cable I used is K type. So I had to order J type.

Glad life finally gave you some time to work on it. I wonder if there is any advantage in a J type vs K type, K just seems to be far more popular, that or they may just be cheaper tor produce, so they sell more of them.

Most people think Magma's PID is way overpriced ($250)

That is a very good point. There would be quite a few people that would get caught. Not sure if I'd know the difference either other than it doesn't work. I'd blame the thermocouple.

I got my Hatch automation set up hooked up to my Master Caster yesterday. Ran about 1500 or more 147 grain 9mm while playing with the controls and getting familiar with the set up. All I can say is WOW! What an upgrade. Once air flow regulators and timers are adjusted, which are easily done, while the machine is running, the only problem is keeping this baby fed with lead. I'll post videos when I have a chance. Gotta go shoot some bullets in a match today.
A big thanks to Hatch for a great piece of automation equipment and his help and support in getting it set up. Also a hats off to Wyman Wynn for having designed the original air assisted Master Caster this set up is based on.

I see nothing wrong by simply saying you think something is overpriced. Making a big deal out it would be different. I have a friend who just built a 6 compartment wooden box for his granddaughter. Said he'd have to charge $400 if he did it for someone else. Glad I was out of town so now he knows what all is involved. I could make more at McDonalds than woodworking.
