Help wanted

Have an old greener martini in 22 hornet used parker hale rifling gun was originally 22 rimfire. Had major trouble with this gun first would not hit primer in centre probably my due to conversion done fifty years ago. I brazen some steel on the block finger levers which lifted the block up and now hits it dead centre. Now cases are hard to extract. I used 224 heads they would get stuck in the barrel with five grains of lil gun. Realised it was 223 not 224 can't get any accuracy with 223 heads or 224 six inch groups at 25 yards. If I use anything over thirty grain head keyholes through target sideways any help would be great fully appreciate feel like throwing taking a buzz saw to it

Might be leaded up severely from it's days as a 22LR. Muzzle crown or cleaning rod wear at muzzle also might be a problem.

22LR are most all 1:16" so bacially wont stabilise anything longer than ½"

I have seen this in Stevens, Remington, and Martini. The ones that have rechambered 22lr barrels
never shoot worth a hoot. I bought a really slick Stevens 22 that was rechambered for Hornet,
beautiful job on breech block/ FP. I got hold of some 32gr Sisk .223 hoping that would fix it, didn't.
Gun would keyhole anything you put in it.

Original Winchesters in 22 hornet used the same rifling as the 22 LR. More than likely the barrel is leaded or the rifling is gone. The 22 Hornet is good for blowing holes in the primer and needs a small diameter firing pin. Most Martinis have a firing pin that is to larger for the Hornet which makes the action hard to open after firing.

Yes it's a real shame my gun is heavy barrel and a take down version barrel comes off in ten seconds have tried everything trigger is lousy as well stiff heavy

I am going to try cleaning it the rifling is really good have had to knock a few heads out and it bites into the jacket at least a mill might be leased up what's best thing for cleaning

Have it relined, John Taylor can do that. There are tricks to getting a good trigger, you might check out the British militaria board, lots of good info on Martinis there.

That's what we call bullets in the uk heads 35 grain or 40 grain

My hornet with 1:16" will shoot those long pointy 40 grn plastic tipped stuff beautifully.
The old rn 40_45 gn 223 projectiles shoot good too.

Most people round 'ere would jest smoke them heads and shoot bullets.

I've rolled bullets in cigarette papers for paper patching, but be blowed if I'm gunna light one up and suck on it.

oops couldn't help it

I fixed the problem I chopped one inch off the barrel and re crowned it shoots great the rifling is good in the gun the inch I chopped off had gone smooth worn out
