Poured some 160 grain .358 caliber boolits for the first time yesterday with an old Lyman single cavity mold I inherited. How'd I do?

The first time is always a bit iffy. What I could see looked pretty good. I first thought I saw some wrinkled boolits in the bowl, but a second look I wasn't so sure. But for a first time it looks really good. Mine usually frost a lot because I just shoot paper anyway.... keep up the good work and keep on casting!

Thank you! Yeah there were a couple wrinkled ones (I didn't have a lead thermometer and was casting on a fireplace), so temperature was tough. I plan to stick with it!

Looks good...wrinkled bullets shoot as well as smooth ones.

worry more about the mold temp and less about the alloy temp.

Load them and shoot them. +1 on higher mold temp. Get a good pace and cast. Don't stop to look at them.

You done good! But if you keep hanging around here the whole 'saving money' thing goes out the window!

Invest in a hot plate to preheat your mold. It will totally change your experience!

Look good to me.
As stated, warmer mold and alloy only as hot as needed to get good boolits.
