What is the correct method of disassembly for the marlin 39a (golden) with the crossbolt safety and rebounding hammer? I picked up a like new one (jm stamp) for 299$ and it looks really nice, I am confused on the procedure for takedown.
Do I A.)
leave on halfcock (per the manual I found online) and leave the lever in the closed position when taking it apart, and the same when reassembling?
Or do I B.)
put the rifle on fullcock, (per some forum answers on here) slightly open lever (but dont engage the bolt) and the same for reassembly?
Or C.) a combination of the two? I am very confused, what is the purpose of fully cocking the hammer if the halfcock doesnt contact the frame/ or bolt, and therefore doesnt marr anything, and what purpose does slightly opening the lever do, it seems it would engage the bolt no matter.
thank you,
Adam
