What is the correct method of disassembly for the marlin 39a (golden) with the crossbolt safety and rebounding hammer? I picked up a like new one (jm stamp) for 299$ and it looks really nice, I am confused on the procedure for takedown.

Do I A.)

leave on halfcock (per the manual I found online) and leave the lever in the closed position when taking it apart, and the same when reassembling?

Or do I B.)

put the rifle on fullcock, (per some forum answers on here) slightly open lever (but dont engage the bolt) and the same for reassembly?

Or C.) a combination of the two? I am very confused, what is the purpose of fully cocking the hammer if the halfcock doesnt contact the frame/ or bolt, and therefore doesnt marr anything, and what purpose does slightly opening the lever do, it seems it would engage the bolt no matter.

thank you,

Adam

Full cock, lever @ 6:00 unscrew, remove lever (Watch the many youtube demos)

what is the purpose of the full cock/ lever open? VS halfcock, as neither contacts the frame/ slide.

.

1) Unload the rifle.

2) Double-check to be sure the rifle is unloaded.

3) Bring the hammer to full cock.

4) Loosen the takedown screw on RH side. (The screw will not come entirely our of the receiver half)

5) Separate the rifle into 2 parts - the barrel/forend and one side of the receiver; and the buttstock with the opposit side of the receiver.

(note: If the gun is fairly new, or has never been taken down, due to the tight tolerances, the buttstock might need a firm slap (with your palm) on the opposite side of the stock from takedown screw, in order to get the halves to separate - protect the finish and don't beat it with a hammer)

6) The hammer must also be at full-cock for re-assembly.
