New old press

My Lee Classic Cast broke, (See other post), so I needed to replace it.
I have a RCBS RC a few Herters "C" type, A few Pacific "C" type, and a CH "H" type.
Never used a tilt back press, so i went with the CH.
Opening is not a tall as the Lee.
The front post has more offset, for more clearance, than the RCBS.
The compound is way more than the Lee, and a little more than the RCBS.
Feels like it will do well forming brass.
The tilt back is not a problem for me. I load on another press.
So far I like it.

Just use it. The rust will become "Patina," or esle wear off. Remove rust is just a bother.

That is cast steel. That ia a brute. I would oil it up and go. Great press.

I just finished posting a reply about your broken Lee Classic Cast........going to rethink buying one now. But I have to ask, do live on the coast or some other high humidity area? A little 0000 steel wool and oil would go a long ways towards keeping that nice old RCBS humming along.

Great presses such as that one do not deserve to wear rust. Removing it would take only a day or two of disassembly and soaking in water w/ some citric acid.

Put a wedge shim under it and it'll stand up straight. Nice press.

I mounted it just to finish a job.
Plan was to clean it up before using it, but.........
When I have time, I'll take it apart and clean it up better.
It's iron, and heavier than the RCBS RC.
Wish had an RCBS A2.

I've never used a tilted press.
So far, for what I'm using it for, I'm liking it.
It might just stay tilted.

So far I'm liking this tilt back press.
Makes it easier to slide the shell in.
With a good shell holder, it's no problem with the shell tilted back.
With a loose shell holder, need to guide the shell in the die.
Sizing and forming is much easier. Lots of compound with the handle.
Had a problem with old primers filling up the slot. (see other post)
Fixed that and it seems to be working so far.
I'm liking this new/old press.

The opening is about the same size as a Rock Chucker, so 50 BMG is not going to fit.

On some there is a cut out for a primer arm and on others there is not. I bought a new one in 2010 and there is no provision for a primer arm.

Wow, that press makes my Herter model 3 look down right wimpy. Nice press, use it and enjoy a classic.

You will really enjoy the press. Just do not try and prime with it. The presses with the primer cut out are at least 20 years old. Not very old in press years as long as they are well maintained.
