View Full Version : 200gr RN .38 and major power factor

I sure could use a 200gr round-nose .38 bullet. The only one on the wider retail market I see is the National Bullet Co. 200gr conical nose. I tried a box and my Official Police loved them. But with NBC's reputation being not so good, I'd just as soon thermally reconfigure some wheelweights and make my own.
What if I really wanted an aluminum Lee two- or six-holer? I'm so accustomed to that type I could save myself some time on the learning curve (where I already need to be spending too much time in the first place).
Any hope for that?
The reason? Making "major power factor" in the USPSA game is much easier, with a faster-to-shoot round with a 200gr slug. I tried some of the old Speer 200gr conical-nosed TMJs they used to sell for silhouette shooting and I made major easily in a four-inch Python in .38 cases using VV 350. Easily, and they were nice to shoot.
Speer doesn't make the 200s anymore and the 180s are just a bit harder to make the PF.
Just to mention... the Buffalo Bore 158gr semi-wadcutters in .38 Special Plus-P very nearly made major (1000fps actual, short of the 1050fps needed) in my two-inch Detective Special! With no trace of overpressure signs. Wish I could get my hands on that propellant.
