FFG and Pyrodex RS

I have a .62 cal cannon which just refuses to ignite Pyro, it just tends to burn off back out the touch hole. FFG works great. Bad Pyro?? The fuse is a tight fit.
I'm using a fuse from Traditions, 1/8" overpowder 20 gauge wad packed tight over 70 gr black ffg
At the moment, I have no other muzzle stuffer and am thinking of using 50 gr of black under 20 gr of Pyro just to get rid of the pyro
I know mixing stuff is not recommended, but has anyone mixed these two??

Gramps always told us pyro is hard to ignite and burns slower than black powder of the equevelent ffg

You might try just 5 or 10 gr of black under the Pyro. Some flint shooters do that with success.

10 grns of BP under 60 grns of RS would do the trick.

The wanna-be black powders have an ignition temperature around 200 degrees hotter than black. I'd bet what moon and rod said will work fine.

I find I have a lot of problems with Pyrodex in my flinters, Found it is just easier to use real black. Luckily I have a local supplier.

I recently shot my 1.75 inch bore cannon and 350 grains of Pyrodex was definitely less powerful than 350 grains of Elephant 2F. The fuse ignited OK but the blast was 50% of BP. These were with newspaper/Cremora blanks, no projectile. I would definitely try the 5 -10 grains of BP behind the Pyrodex.

I could have had a difference in wad size, weight, and pressure applied. The bore is 1.75 inches and I was just ramming paper down after the powder with a 1 inch wood dowel so it was not consistent and I only shot one Pyrodex shot. It was ignited with a 1/8th inch fuse.

I don't think there has been a real need to mix. So in saying and never doing all of a sudden such subjects become a {taboo} kind of general response received.
If I had a need to get rid of a small amount of such powder I simply fire it up in the street gutter. But a large amount. I like you would be figuring a way to make use of.

Just saying. "Better to be safe than sorry."
Reduce the cannons charge some and measure each load equally and slowly bring the charge up too the level of noise/power you >think< equals 100% Black.

Pay close attention to your Conscience. When you get to where your comfortable in its blending and its ignition burn >Stop!! no tweaking of is advisable.<

I'll give it a go......it's been a while since I did the muzzle loading thing, and was unpleasantly surprised at the $26/lb price tag of black.
Been doing M/L since the mid '60s when DuPont FFG was 70 cents a pound and we were lucky enough to be shooting "original" 1800's rifles. Yup, I'm that old............

You can get Black cheaper if you can find it. You can also order it as an alternative but really need to order at least 5# to make it worth while with the hazmat fee.

My golf ball cannon only likes real black powder. It will not fire off any Pyrodex.

I thought I had scored 5 years ago when the local Wal-Mart had RS Pyrodex at 1/2 price $4.00 a pound.
Bought 3 cases they had left. It would not ignite by fuse. I donated the powder to the boy scouts. It worked for their summer camp programs.

Sorry Real BP for me ONLY. glad I can find it in New England easily.
