Curious if anyone is shooting one of these old Marlins (1950 birth year)? I have one that has been pushed to the back of the closet for years. I've never shot it in the 30 or so years I've had it (family hand me down). It is very nicely set up with a nice Stith mount and scope from the period (probably why it has never interested me). My eyes are getting older and the scoped Marlin has gotten some interest now. Maybe I can find a peep sight for it..

This rifle is in 35 Remington so brass is easy enough to get. What I'd be interested in is something on the order of .357 power/cost to shoot (once I have some brass). I have not slugged the bore but assume in the .357 range. Pistol bullets would be nice if they will chamber (SWC for the tube magazine). What kind of accuracy might one get from light cast in the old lever gun?

I have a '49 waffle top in 30-30, with a peep sight.

Shoots boolits fine.

I use the lyman 311008 115 gr, and the lee 150, either lubed or powdercoated.

I shoot paper, and ground hogs, so not a serious hunter.

Trail Boss and Unique work for me.

So, Arlon, get to work, you got a lot of fun catchin' up to do !

My dads 336A Micro groove likes the 38 Hornady XTP but they are pricey so I stick with the RCBS 200grain FP and shoot deer or cans a lot cheaper ,lots of powder choices depending what your target is .eekjellander@gmail.com199029

I have at least 5 35 rem Marlins that my wife knows about (actual number may vary)! I shoot the 200 gr RCBS with 3031. Cheap and more killing power than the numbers reveal. Wheelweights are about the right alloy with a little Tim for good fill out.

I don't get good results wiith light weight. 35 Cal bullets but 150 grain works well. Look at the Lee 158gr RFP. I would try Unique.
