I just bought a ranchdog mold to cast for 25 acp. I will likely just use alox for lube, but I wondered if powdercoating can be done on this tiny round. I wonder how easily they will melt.

I haven't, but I have powder coated a lot of 22cal. bullets and they won't melt at powder coating temps. Alloy melts at a given temp regardless of bullet size. Gp

Good to know. I may try to coat some just to see if they will feed more reliably than those lubed with alox. Might be less friction on that slick painted surface.

I'm not too worried about leading as I size to fit the bore properly.

ichthyo; I'd sure give it a try. Very few of my pistol bullets get lubed any more. PC is just SOOO much cleaner. Do yourself a favor and buy quality PC powder. Clear coats best for me and I use Eastwood's products or Cardinal powder that is available locally. Also, I've heard nothing but good about the powders sold by our fellow member "Smoke" Good luck. Gp

That would be pretty neat to powder coat them. I think you should not have any trouble. The 25 ACP bullets tend to be short and fat so they should stand up fairly easily for placing them on the pan for baking. Doing the longer heavier bullets would be pretty tricky though.

I have powder coated cast bullets for 32 ACP and have loaded a shot in a small automatic, all went well. Also have cast and powder coated bullets for a 32 S&W Long. The cast bullets are tall and not to big in diameter. Some care was required in moving the tray into the oven. All went well with these cast bullets also. These 32 S&W Long cartridges were shot in a pare of H&R revolvers.
The revolvers shot good with regard to accuracy. My wife and sister in law shoot the two revolvers
when not shooting 38 Special in revolvers.

I've powder coated a lot of .224 boolits.

Hi-Tek would be another option.

I tried to powdercoat the crappy rcbs 25 ACP boolits, they still didn't look good. Fed and fired just fine in the Phoenix arms, but I'm just not happy at all with that mold.

Have you tried the RD bullets w/o PCing?

I haven't received the mold yet. I will likely try PC and alox just to see how both methods feed.

I am very curious to see what they look like when you get the mold. It's one I have been thinking of buying. Please post pictures if you can. I would appreciate it.

I haven't received the mold yet. I will likely try PC and alox just to see how both methods feed.

In my experience, bullet shape is the determining factor in feeding, not finish. I have a gun that just doesn't like SWC bullets (Ruger P90 in 45 ACP). It works great with other shape bullets, but a coated SWC fails just as much as a nekkid SWC. I would try the bullet as Ranch Dog designed it before I tried anything else. I have 2 Ranch Dog designed molds and the bullets work very well when used as RD designed them (I dip lube with 45-45-10, just like RD). I've had no benefits from PCing these bullets...
