Forget it. It's going to rain cats and dogs in the morning. That would be MY luck anyway.

I would of guessed that you were going to pick up some waterproof targets and head to the gun range.

My guess is the reloading room or the casting pot, then to the range. Lots of reports on the trip please. I've even eye balling a Henry for a few years now.

I just bought the Henry Big Boy in .357/38 Special three weeks ago. One really neat thing I discovered: The manual that comes with it says it will only shoot 38 Specials with the 158 grain bullet, but mine cycles very nicely with 38 specials using standard 158 grain, the lyman 358156, the Hornady 140 grain "Cowboy" cast bullet, and even 125 grain FMJ/FN. All of these I seated standard for 38 Special except the 125 grain-- that one I had to seat a little longer (1.500) before it would cycle through the receiver nicely. So, it works very nicely with a lot more potential loads than what their manual says. Enjoy!

I bet hes headed to his local gunsmith to see if he can put in a load gate in because he doesnt want to use the tube feed.

It's one of those mixed emotion things. I'd love to see a loading gate in my Henry, and wish my other lever actions (the ones wit loading gates) were as smooth and pretty as the Henry.

I prefer the tube.

Have fun shooting the Henry. I was so torn when I was looking to a lever gun. I really wanted a loading gate and I also wanted to mount a scope. I don't like the feel of a marlin( maybe I am strange) so it was Henry or Rossi. In the end the Rossi won out due to the loading gate.

Todays range report.
Temp 80ish and rainy, no wind to speak of. I got to the range and was surprised to find only one other guy there, I set up at the 50 yard line figuring this is a brand new rifle how far off could it be?
As soon as I stapled a new target (22"x34" with 5 orange bulls) it started to pour the rain. Perhaps that was why none of my shots hit the paper! Yeah I'll bet the rain slowed the bullets down and weighed them down too, that's why it shot about 14"low and 12" to the right.
To be honest I was very disappointed I haven't bought many new guns before and I expected it to at least hit that BIG sheet of paper!
I ended up moving to the 25 yard line and that's where I dialed it in with 158 SJHP and 2400 powder I got one ragged hole centered in the bull. I tried some 158gr lead round nose that I had loaded long ago in .38spl cases and was pleasantly surprised to see almost the same accuracy just a tad looser grouping. Now I'm going to have to figure away to keep this away from my wife, if she ever shoots specially with .38spl she'll claim as hers! The gun performed flawlessly with exception of 2x and I believe I short stroked the lever. All in all I'm satisfied but would be happier if I didn't have to drift the front site so far over. So no it's not going to the pawnshop!

Sorry I cursed you with the rain!

And I had to drift my front sight somewhat also. But it's dialed in now!

Is that a common issue with a Henry? I e never heard of it before, and the only Henry I have shot is a 45-70. My buddy got it brand new and it shot point of aim right out of the box.

Dang, I thought you were coming down to my house to gift me a Henry. By the way, the tube magazine doesn't bother me at all. james

The Henry's are aesthetically pleasing to the eye! My brother bought one also in .357/38, a bit heaver than I'd expected. He was having it scatter a bit more than expected with my Marlin loads. Hoping he shot it enough to break in and settle down.

One of my favorite guns I love shooting my BB carbine in 357 magnum. I put a Skinner on it and a green fiber optic front sight. The fastest little lever gun I own. Man no recoil accurate and great looking gun. Love to shoot the 158 grain Nosler FP over a load of H110.
