I just had my teeth checked and cleaned. While there, I picked up my last batch of x-ray lead foil from the Dentists x-rays. I have been getting about 25-30 lbs a year from him. He is going to digital film.

The stuff is about Bhn 10-11, very much like my wheelweights. However, it casts much nicer than wheelweights does. I don't have to add any tin to it like I do wheelweights. Such is the price of progress.

All good things come to an end :(

Remember when wheel weights were free?

I just picked up half a bucket of free wheelweights with the purchase of $450 of tires and alignment work.

The X ray foil backers that I got from my dentist were much softer than COWW. More like SOWWs at 7-8 BHN

my dentist has to log his lead removal for insurance reasons. He showed me the form and the letter he gets from a lead reclamation company. They don't charge him all that much to take the lead away but for what ever reason he needs to document his lead disposal.

Sounds like something California would require.

I'm another that lost out when dentist went to magic x-rays or whatever

Pretty much just buy lead from vendors here. at 71 concentrating on the 'fun' parts of the hobby now

The teeth were OK, considering their age. I don't know what is in the lead they use, but it is certainly good stuff for casting. I think it may be lead and tin. It casts like that. I mix it 50/50 with my WW. That is not to make the mix harder or softer. They are about the same hardness. It is to make the WW cast better. I am going to miss it.
