I am wondering if the 40-90 bottleneck cartridge is more difficult to get accuracy from vs. a straight wall cartridge. I am presently working with a 45-70 and having fun and success with accuracy. I have varying opinions from the web. Thanks for your help.

Got one a couple of weeks ago. Haven't shot it much, but seems like it's not going to be hard to get to shoot well

Don't know about accuracy straight vs BN, but many shooters in the 1800's swore that bottleneck cases had more felt recoil compared to straight cases with the identical charge and bullet. I've shot a wide variety of black powder cartridges, and, though I've never measured scientifically, I'd say I tend to agree.

I don't find my 40-90 to have any more noticeable recoil, than any other cartridge shooting nearly 90 gr. of powder.

Based solely on my experience I never had much trouble getting original BP/BN cartridge rifles to shoot well. I should add I've never worked with one that used anymore than about 65-68 grains. I would also agree with Don in that I couldn't tell any difference in felt recoil given similar powder charges and bullet weights although a lot of that will depend on the rifle's weight and stock design.
