When using a coaster on a table which side faces up under the glass
(cork or ceramic side)?

it is usually the cork side up, as the cork absorbs moisture. however imo the cork would protect the table better than the stone or ceramic, or whatever its made of.

The cork protects the table from scratches. The ceramic is probably an absorbent stone material.

Glasses don't often sweat in New Mexico. Not enough water in the air most of the time. Cork down. The ceramic ones are absorbent.

If it's a wood top table, put the cork side up, if it's glass top, put the ceramic side up.

I would put them so they are standing up . . . cork facing left and ceramic facing right but that's just 'cause I like living on the "edge". :-)

As I write this, I have a cup of coffee sitting on a coaster just like you are talking about on the wood table next to me. The cork side is down and the decorative ceamic is facing up . . . and I just don't question it because my wife bought them last week and set them out. I'm just thankful she'll let me drink a cup of coffee int he living room! :-)

My wife has some with our initial on the ceramic side so it was pretty easy to decide which side goes up. She's a lot more civilized than I am.......:holysheep

I use a SS cup, doesn't sweat and doesn't need a darn coaster. But nice side does go up :redneck:

Drink faster, problem solved. I've been married 24yrs, unless it has an indention in it, I either look to see what my wife does, or ask her to tell me!
Something else I've learned, use it the way it's handed to you!

Cork goes down - non slip side down. That's what my Mom said, anyway. We've got glass coasters with little silicon feet on them, there's no question.

I've ridden on a few coasters in my life. they were all made on some sort of steel, Never saw any that had cork or even ceramic. With the speed they were running did not think they needed ceramic to protect them from the heat like the shuttle does.
