View Full Version : Lyman 57 WJS peep sight on Remington 721
I've been thinking about getting a Lyman 57 WJS peep sight to put on a Remington 721 rifle that I have. My only question is; does this peep sight need a relief cut made into the stock? I know some peep sights need it while others do not. I would prefer not cutting into the stock if I can avoid it. I was just wondering if this Lyman model does not require any wood being removed. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yes it does. If you have a 721A no big deal as stocks are easy to find. If it is an AC, B or Premier NO WAY !
I've put dozens of 721/2s in 700 stocks, quite easy.
Thanks RedJackson for your input. Not sure what style of stock it is (I do know it is the original stock); but I believe it is just the basic grade, since it is nothing fancy. Still do not want to cut into it. I guess I just keep it the way it is and use the rear sight that is already on it (I have other rifles with Lyman sights on them to use).
