Well, I've checkered enough kindling to see maw though the next winter and am about to engage an rifle stock.

I'm planning to build a checkering cradle, I've some stock plans, but thought I would put the general question out to the old pros- any one willing to take a photo of their cradle and tell me what you love about it, what you like about it, and what you might have done differently?

Nothing like the voice of experience.

The best checkering cradle I ever saw was in someone else's shop.......

A checkering cradle I saw years ago, made from a piece of pipe and connecting rods from a motor.

I made mine from the plans in Monty Kennedy's book, Checkering & Carving of Gunstocks. It works as well as any other I have seen. If I were to make another I would consider assembling it from steel shelf brackets and 1 5/8" Unistrut.

The checkering cradle which I have seen and liked was inexpensive and easy to build.
