I was wondering if someone out there who owns a ballistics program can tell me about what velocity to expect from 26 grains of 2400 in the .350RM using Lyman 358430. The PB boolit weighs 196 grains and has a BHN about like Lyman #2... perhaps a point or two harder. The .350 holds 72.25 grains of water and the barrel is 22" long. Do you need the boolit's length? I'm guessing 1500 to 1600 fps. If you can supply approximate pressure data that would be great!

I'm ready to buy one of these programs but I don't know whether to go with Load From A Disk or Quickload. I would imagine Quickload has a more extensive database because it's over twice the price of LFAD.

Thanks,
MJ

Thanks Mike,

That would have been way too hot for what I want right now. I think I may go with 22-23 grains of 4759.

Thanks again for saving my range day!

MJ -- you might check out the freeware at huntingnut.com - If it does not suit you no big loss -

Still whackin' away with the .350, eh?

Despite the fact the caliber has been discontinued I managed to find a stainless Mk II with fiberglass stock. I fill out the FFL this week and take possession in about a week.

I see that they are now making the Hawkeye in .35 Whelen.

It'll be awhile before I have that .350 running but when I finally do I'll let you know how things work out. Meahwhile, keep me posted on how the accuracy/.350 saga plays out.

Good for you .35R! Yep, it's my favorite cartridge for 2008. :-D Even if I have to put a 1:14 Kieger barrel on the action to get accuracy beyond 2100 fps in '09

I'll be shooting the .350 with the group buy 360-220 this Thursday because it holds more lube than SAECO 352. The thing is, my .35-336A with two more inches of barrel shoots SAECO 352 well to 2100 fps... the Ruger has been fire lapped too (with a Tubbs Kit). Maybe the additonal 10+ grains of powder in the .350 is placing too much of a demand on the lube?? Beats me... will see what happens on Thrusday. I'll post the 10 round group at the end of Range results with the M77 .350 (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=28788).

I see that they are now making the Hawkeye in .35 Whelen.Uh oh... looks like the twist will be 1 in 16" too. Maybe I'll ask Santa to bring me one. [smilie=1:

Mike,

Whatever system you have did a very good job predicting the velocity. The results over the chronograph with 20 grains of 2400 were:

High: 1649
Low: 1597
ES: 52
Mean: 1630
Std Dev: 16.4
% Dev: 1.0

For all I know this could have been Hercules 2400 (it is in a Power Pistol container) because I haven't purchased any 2400 in 20+ years. I'll bet the reason it's in a Power Pistol container is because the old steel bottom Hercules container started to rust.

Since your system did such a good job of predicting velocity, I'm going to assume it does as good a job predicting PSI.

Thanks again,
MJ

Mike,

I just bought Quickload but it appears I'm going to need to wait for it to be shipped. I don't see anyway to download a copy. I should have done this ages ago but I needed to buy a PC to run it on. Could you please try 23.0 grains of IMR 4198 in QuickLoad (all else the same) and if you don't mind, what charge of Accurate's XMR 2015 would yield 1500-1600 fps?

Thank you,
MJ
