Thinking of getting a CB type mold for my 45-70. Looking for something in the 130 - 150 gr weight. Any one here loading these or have experience with them?

A 45 cal RB of pure lead will weigh about 143gr.

I can't imagine a boolit weighing 130gr.

I think my Lee GB mold casts one that is 170+
NOE's is advertised at 186gr.

OK, I've done a search with no joy, and been trying to figure what a "Lee GB mold" bullet is - "GB"??? Gum Ball? RB is "round ball" of course, but "GB"?? Enlighten me please - I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to all these abbreviations.

CB is collar button. The G is a typo ??????

No, GB here on castboolits means 'group buy'. Before the likes of NOE, Mihec etc etc our only option for a custom mould group buy was to put in a mass order with Lee.
Edit: There again it could be a typo and actually mean collar button!
Edit edit: If you use the custom search feature there are 4260 hits for Lee GB

Here's the original thread for the Lee collar button group buy. Worth a read as it shows how friendly and casual this forum used to be. Also shows why we don't use Lee for group buys any more. In a nutshell this GB was a 6 gang copy of the Lyman 457130.

Now after reading so much about the collar button mould in the last hour I'm seriously interested in one for my Pedersolli roller. Anyone got one for sale?

Just pulled the trigger on one. Happy Fathers Day to myself. There are 2 still on E-Bay, just do a search with "Lyman 2660130"

Also just to a Google search for Lyman 2660130.

Also found a YouTube Video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dQpAhIEav0

"Collar Button" - I think that's a new one on me. I'd seen those really short bullets before, but for some reason never saw "collar button" in connection with them..... Most likely just overlooked it.

Do those shoot any better than round balls in a 45-70 for 50 yd shooting?

Lyman used to make a 145 grain collar button #457130 but I'm sure one of those would be next to impossible to find.

NOE has a sale on their NOE 460-186-CB (collar button) if you could live with a 186 grain boolit. Right now a 3 cavity plain base is $86.00.
They also have a neat little 460-172-SP mould, that one looks interesting .

Since Lyman added it back to their catalog a few years ago, it actually is pretty easy to find.

You could use swaged. 457 round balls coated with lla till you get a mold. I've a wad cutter mold from Saeco that casts a 250 gr bullet that casts at.456 that I use in my 45/70s. Not the most accurate but for plinking it works well. Gave some to a friend for getting rid of squirrels that were invading his attic.

Ahh, my favorite playin' around load for the .45-70. .457 round ball, thumbed into the case over 9 grains of Unique.

I cast them with a Walt made NEI mold. Lots of fun in my SxS.
I believe I have a pretty good supply on hand if you would like to try some. Just cover shipping.

You guys are dangerous. I don't have a .45/70 but I want a collar button mold. Maybe I can find one for something I shoot.

Ideal also offered a .44 collarbutton mould #429239 from 1911 to 1953. Just a scaled down version of the .45 one. Both have an extra large grease groove for black powder shooting.
