I am changing out all of my Dillon lock rings as I am tired of dealing with the two ring setup. I had about decided on the RCBS rings until I saw the L E Wilson stainless rings. The top of my 550 is crowded with dies, press light and a round count sensor so I have little extra space.

Does anyone know the dimension across-the-flats of the Wilson rings? I asked Midway this question and they have not replied. I don't want to buy something that doesn't work.

Why do you have a "two ring setup" on a Dillon press?, one ring snugged up will hold the dies firmly in the tool head for ever, none of min have come loose?

In my 650 with bigger die rings every other one is underneath the tool head gaining much more room for them. Yea its kind of a pain on the original set up but once set in a dedicated tool head its forever for me. On most calibers the die sticks thru more than enough for this to work well

Ono of my Dillons is a 450 which is a solid frame machine.......no tool head.

Okay that makes things harder. Lyman used to have some very small hex rings also. acted like a jam nut no set screw or clamp, I don't think they had enough wall thickness for them. I believe the hex was 1" or 1 1/8" with 7/8 14 threads.

I don't see how Wilson rings can be any smaller overall than the Dillon 1 inch rings.

Are you using the original sized Dillon lock rings or the smaller 1 inch lock rings?

Forster's are 1.357 and the Sinclair's 1.410. Both lock rings measured while secured on dies.

Greetings

This was taken from L.E Wilsons website

L.E. Wilson manufactured lock nut - thickness is .225" from inside to outermost edge .270" for height and 1.250" total width OD.
7/8 - 14 Thread
Includes set screw and Wilson's protective felt pad to go behind set.

hope this helps

Thanks for the replies! I really appreciate it!

What I am trying to achieve is the smallest possible ring with a set screw to discontinue using the double ring setup.

I double nut the Dillon dies on my 450 with Dillon nuts also. Works so good I'm going to keep doing it.
