Ok. want a custom mould and want to make sure the design I'm considering will be practical. I have a .416 Remington Magnum but jacketed bullets are too expensive to be fun anymore soooo....I was fiddling around on Mountain Molds and came up with a design that I think will be nice on paper and dangerous game.

425gr with Lynotype Secant ogive with a 80% meplat and a straight gas chech step. Nose length of .650" That ought to make a Cape Buffalo wince!

It's difficult to just drop a group of money on something that may or may not work. Has anyone else designed a .416" boolit? If so let me see what it looks like and what was you design criteria.:lovebooli

Cape Buffaloes probly get upset after they wince! Better to put them down before they wince (and that's if they waste time to wince before just getting mad!). Check your LOA against greenhill, and make sure it will stabilize. Also consider if you will actually ever be hunting with it, and look at a smaller meplat maybe with annealed noses, or maybe using two alloy boolits if you go hunting. That way you get better long range and target performance too. A small meplat can also be drilled to get a hollow point.

I don't think you will be too happy with a 80% meplat. 70% would be more stable and and feed better. Some people would say even that is too big.

Bad Karma, RCBS makes a boolit for the 416, #82075 it is a 350grs. FNGC, supposed to be .417Dia.

I was messing around on the Mountain Molds website yesterday. If you've got too much security on your pop up blocker, the Paypal check out page won't come up. Saved me $85! Guess I'll have to turn off the pop up blocker next time.

Mountain Molds worked for me last night, so Dan still got $85!
