Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not.

—2 Timothy 4:2

My mother was married and divorced seven times, so I practically had a full-time ministry sharing the gospel with her former husbands. Three of them in particular come to mind.

There was Oscar Laurie, who adopted me. I was able to share the gospel with him, and he came to believe in Jesus. That was wonderful.

Then there was a man my mother had been married to in Hawaii. I visited him when I was speaking at the Waikiki Shell, which was very close to where he lived on Oahu. But he wanted nothing to do with anything I was saying.

Then there was Bill, my mother’s last husband. She had recommitted her life to the Lord a month before God called her to Heaven. Sometime later, I was going to the airport when I received word that Bill was very sick.

I thought, “What if he doesn’t last much longer? The irony is that I’m on my way to preach to people about Jesus, and here is someone who needs Jesus badly.” So I turned my car around and drove to Bill’s house.

The moment I walked in, I could see how seriously ill he was. I went over the gospel with Bill one more time, and then I said, “Bill, would you like to pray and ask Jesus into your life?” He always had been resistant to this, but he said yes, and he prayed.

I left Bill’s house for the airport, thanking the Lord for what had taken place. And later that day when my plane landed, I received a text saying that Bill had died.

Our job is proclamation. God’s job is conversion. Our job is sowing the seed. His job is reaping where it has been sown. Let’s do our part. Eternity is at stake.

We are truly to witness . It is the command of Christ himself .

Matthew 28;19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mark 16;15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Corinthians 5;10-11
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Check it out yourself . The great commission , part of our obligation to Christ , to others and ourselves .

Great post. Shows the value of never giving up, and of never being disillusioned because we don't get immediate results for our efforts. And I know of no more fitting message for many of us (most?) than such a message today. We're taught in so many ways to expect immediate results and gratification, that it may well be a major wonder we CAN simply cast our bread, and at times, just wait to see what its effect really is. We're always in such a hurry! I know I was for most of my life. I got these bad hips from pushing myself too hard, lest I miss some opportunity. And it's amazing how many answers I began to discern when I stopped charging so hard, and just let the answers come in their own time and their own way! I guess I've been very assumptive along most of my way in life, and you know what they say about how that word's spelled! But our Lord is always faithful, if we will simply show a little faithfulness ourselves. What a wondrous Lord we serve and worship!
