i've been looking at a husky 146 or a 46 in 9.3x57mm. although it will be a year or so, i still plan on getting it. the 9.5x57mm would be a great cast boolit rifle, but if you know me, i'd have something different. i was looking at the 9.3x57, i thought if it a 57mm then why can't it be 9.3mm-08? now i'm not the smartest guy, but somebody came up with the 9.3mm-08, didn't they?

i mean they took the 308 up and down the scale, 243,260, 7-08, 338 fed, 358, and the 375-08 and i know wildcats that are the 22-08, 257-08 and 270-08, why couldn't it be 9.3mm(.366")-08? so being the....ummm....guy(i won't say it but you can) that i am, i go and look to see what die or what chamber reamers there are. well, i came up with nothing. die-wise, i went to ch4d site and came up with nada. (i still have to come up with more custom die makers) reamers, i looked up a ptg, dave manson, elk ridge, clymer, jgs and 4d rentals and i came up with nothing also.

the 9.3mmx08(or 51mm) will kinda be the same as 9.3x57mm, which i want, but it will still be different. does anybody have a 9.3mm-08 or know of a guy that has it? i'm just curious to know what a 9.3mm-08 does velocity wise?

The 57mm case will get about 75-100 fps more than the 08 case IME assuming same pressures. The difference is conversation basically. A 9.3-08 or 36-08 would be cool I agree.
When I owned a 9.3x62 and a .300 Savage; playing around with things produced a cute .366 Savage round to confuse my heirs......

The 9.3x57 usually puts out a 286 grain bullet at about 2000-2100 feet per second and is only about a 40K cartridge pressure wise. Think big slow moving bullet. Frank

Cool Idea.
The only consern I would have is the shoulder of the cartridge.
Going with that big of bullet, the shoulder is shorter, and if at the standard angle of a .308 could cause inconsistant Headspacing issues.
The .35 Whelen had some at the start, and I would actually want a .35 Whelen " Improved" over the standard .35 Whelen that I have now.
I may upgrade mine in the future .
But a 9.3 x -08 with an improved shoulder and just a little more case capicity would be interesting.

I just looked that round up for potential dimensions.
Like comparison to the .358 Winchester
You thought about the .338 Federal for a larger bore on the .308 case.
But , I too like BIG bores like the 9.3 and .375
So dont think I am trying to stear you wrong.
But those two rounds could give you starting points for loading info.
Go for it.
Custom all the way. I like it.

A friend of mine has a handi rifle that he had JES rebore and chamber to 375/08 and he likes it a lot.
I would think if you had a 9.3 bore barrel and chambered it to 358 Win. and then throated it for the neck dia. and leade for the 9.3 you would have the chamber.
For dies , The 358 Win dies should be able to be modified by annealing and reaming to the correct neck sizing diameter or you can have them made at a higher cost.

The 9.3 X 62 can be shortened and formed on 51 mm length brass also.

i would like to "try" a 9.3mm-08 but funds are kinda slim. i'll try a husky in 9.3x57mm. dies should cost me $50-60, brass should be(8x57) $30 or so for 50(probably go with 200 cases) and i have imr4985 and some 2400 and my boolit will be 270-285gr cast. i think i'll have to put on a redfield peep sight. if i get 1700-1800fps then i'll take it deer/black bear hunting.

I think what you are referring to is the 9.3x51mm Barnes-Sisk. A round wildcatted a few years ago by John Barnsnes and Charlie Sisk. You can look Barnsnes (sp.) in Handloader magazine. An excellent publication before they hired Dave Scovill .

I would keep it as is and shoot the 9x57. You could load the heavy weight bullets for anything in North America and load it down for small game with a 9mm MAK bullet.
