Hello all..
Today at the local gunshop abuddy of mine pulls out a ruger super blackhawk 6 shot custom job 45 cal with a 12" bbl. On the barrel its marked 458 Enforcer. I asked to see his caliipers and the bbl mikes out at .458 and throats at .460.
He offers this custom gun to me at a sweeeeetheart of a price as its a odd ball cal and I am sucker for a big bore ruger and/or uncommon stuff. So I grabbed it up.

Now the hard part. I cant find ANY info on this cal, nothing at all anywhere!
Does anyone have any info on this thing at all? Thanks in advance....Buck

Check the cylinders of the gun. There are several inculding the 458 one and a half inch barnes it couls be.

Did you get any cases with it?

No I didnt get anything at all with it. And the shooter that had it made ,passed on to the great hunting trip in the sky. The best I can tell its more or less a 45 long colt set up to take .458 dia boolits. The best way to honer him and his creation is to put it to good loving use, and give it the respect it deserves. Any ideas on dies?

Any sign of 'belts' in the chambers?

I found a referance for .458 x 1.25. Lists a 350gr bullet @ 1950fps for 2955 ft/lbs and they listed HANDGUNS'91 as their referance. hope this helps.

Could be?

458x1 1/2 inch Barnes
45 Silhouette
458x2 inch American

Those are the only three I could find in my references.

Get some plug or pin gauges (the ones that are straight and come in .001" steps), and find out how deep the case part of the chambers are. While you're at it find out the diameter at the rear of the chambers, and at the neck. This should tell you the headsize (what case to make your brass out of), and how long the cases should be. Call RCBS and see if they have dies in that persuasion (whatever it measures). They'l also tell you what you have as they try to figure out which dies to send you.

A cast of the chamber(or 2) will give you all the dimensions. From there it is a guessing game as to loads. There IS a book withalmost all the copy writed calibers and a few that aren't copy written.

You might want to try over at http://www.singleactions.com. Lee Martin is the head honcho of the site and there are several "custom gun nuts" that are regulars and John Taffin is in there a good bit as well. I would be really surprised if no one there has an answer for you as they deal with some wild customs. Good luck and post some pics of your new trophy!

GREAT ADVICE!!
Judging from the light carbon ring in the cylinder, the case is the same as length as a 45 lc.
Its a straight wall case.In fact 45 lc cases fit it nicely.
Further looking with a magnifing glass revieled some more info. In a light profeshionly done script on the bbl is marked..............

"Custom made In The Lords year. 1977 A.D." and "Metallic Silhouette Model" and "No.E- One"

I dont know if the AD is for the year or a makers Name.
Did I mention it has a creepless 2LB trigger pull!!!
Thanks for your help guys!!

AD is latin for "Anno Domini" Medieval Latin: In the year of (the/Our) Lord. Now replaced by C.E. for "Common Era."

It look to me like 45 Silhouette may be the cloest case as suggested by danski26. Good luck!:D

Get hold of IHMSA and ask someone there. They came up with all kinds of calibers for the game that nobody knows about outside of the sport.
