One has been offered to me.it's been aged and seems overall good shape ecept for on older crack above the wrist that has been professional repaired very well. What is going rate for these? They are out of business and I can't find a reference. $800 is asking price

Personally I'd shy from any thing bigger than a .32 or .36 w a cracked wrist unless it was cheap enough to have it restocked.

I agree here, especially a .62 with a repaired cracked stock, Idahoron told me about trying to repair a Renegade stock and it never did hold, he even tried accra glass. A small bore like Standing Bear mentioned above would likely be ok due to very little recoil.

If it's a good repair, I'd buy it in a heartbeat for $800.

I would follow this advise ^^ if waksupi says he'd buy it in a heartbeat it must be worth it, The guy definitely knows his stuff with these old guns

It's a very thin line split.appears to be epoxy.pretty hard to notice at first.here is the gun.very fine line can be seen on pic of the lock.

He probably is concerned about shooting a .62 w a cracked stock.

I would now want to know who built it, and if he knew what he was doing. I can tell you that is not a North Star production gun, so was put together from a kit. Still, I would most likely chance it. The builder left a lot more wood on the stock than any of the company guns are, so has a bit more strength. Keep the charge to 60-65 gr., and you would no doubt have no problems. Exactly where is the crack? Can you get a close up of that?

Underneath the part opposite of the lock there was somebodys initials. I'll have to get a picture of them, possibly it will help me figure out who made it.
On the left side of the barrel it is marked N*W

I wouldn't walk away from it if that is the crack you are referring to in the pic. I've had antique double barrel shotguns repaired with cracks much worse than that. I don't know how this one was repaired but if the stock was pinned it would likely shoot till the cows come home.

A screw was also run up from underneath the trigger guard it looks like.
Thanks for everybody's help now I just have to make the big decision if I want to plop down the money.

I wouldn't worry about that crack.

On a Chief's grade, the tang bolt can be installed in either direction.

I had only glanced at the first pictures. On a closer look, this gun is NOT North Star parts, nor a gun from the company. No idea of what the origin is.

I DO see something of possible concern. It appears there was a rather deep cut dovetail for a rear sight on the barrel. I would do some real careful measuring, to see just how much metal is left under that filler piece. THAT would raise a definite concern. Better pictures give better analysis!

wick in some quality water thin CYA to that crack and it'll be stronger than the surrounding wood.

$600? dang, that's a steal.

Buy the company, keep me employed. I'm crippled up enough, I have no idea how I'm going to make a living. Can only be on my feet two hours at the most before the pain gets too bad.

Sorry to hear that waksupi, i know several old loggers on the Wa coast that really struggled when the big Companies started to fold, its all they knew, tough on them ole boys in this computer ran world we live in today. I always thought an outfit like Buffalo Arms would be really neat to work for, but as much as i have been in that place the last 2 years or so I'm not so sure it would be? Nothing against the Co whatsoever, just not sure i could do it with my lack of computer skills.

Sorry to hear that your employment is tenuous at best. Can gun building be done sitting? Getting old and worn out sucks!

Can, and will continue building, just going to take longer.
