Ugly as SIN!

This is the front sight I made awhile ago. I mentioned it a long time ago, so here it is. Ugly as SIN!!! I had a problem with the Camp 45's sight falling off. I lock tited it. No luck. I JB Welded the screws and still it snapped off. I am shooting regular low pressure stuff here. Nothing hot. So for awhile I had it scoped and shot it a bunch. This gun begs for iron sights so I ordered one from Brownells. Too big, wouldn't fit at all. So I went to Ace Hardware and gut a Galvanized safe plate from the electrical dept. and cut out a strap and then beat it around a pair of vice grip handles using them as a mandrel of sorts. Bang, bang, fit. Bang, bang fit......repeat. A lot of filing. Set it up and drilled some holes, made some spacers and bolted it all together. It fit. So I took it off and rounded everything off to make it "dehorned" and I was in business. Everyone that sees it says how ugly it is. This thing can shoot very well. It is a cast bullet machine! couldn't you at least cold blue the damn thing?

I actually tried. That is the black splotching on the one side. It is galvanized and I don't think the zinc will take the bluing. I really like this gun. I especially like the fact it takes 1911 mags. I was really bummed out when I was having sight issues and couldn't shoot it.

Clean the sight and base with MEK or some other good cleaner

Then I would mask off the barrel
Then a can of either flat black or semi gloss black spray paint

2 or 3 lite coats

Basic , simple , cheap and easy

But it works , just like the sight

Well I can't see a problem as long as it works. Maybe a touch of paint and a trim of the screws but good job anyway.

to paraphrase an American hero. "Ugly is as ugly does." It shoots, the sight lets you hit things, if someone wants to pull the piss out of your handywork, tell them to blow it out their trumpet, or whatever else you can think of.

Actually MGD45 (a member here) crawls up my back all the time about it, but he knows this thing can shoot!

Not sure if that qualifies as "Ugly as Homemade Sin" or not, but hey if it shoots, it was a camp rifle to begin with. I'd just hate to see that rig on a custom Wby.

Some how I think you made it uglier, but I'm not sure how. You might want to pull it off, bead blast it and use a flatter paint.
