A while back i bought this mold at a flea market. Its a Lyman 2874050-0 7mm I do know on older molds that a 0 can mean a oversize and U can be a undersize mold. Whats weird about this mold the shank size is 300 for the gas check area. The body of the bullet is 288.:?: Now looking at the mold it does not look like some one drill it out. I do know Lyman use to make custom molds. For the life of me i been trying to figure out why the shank size is 12 thousand larger then the body of the bullet. What was the reason for the larger shank then the body size which is correct at 288.

.....uh, gas checked paper patch bullet? [smilie=l: With the 300 shank and the 288 body. The Carcano 7.35 is a 300 bore. So it could be a paper patch bullet for the Carcano. Can you paper patch as thick as 12 thousand for the 288 body.? Like i said the mold does not look like it been drill out. I believe its a custom mold made for some reason.?

I posted that somewhat in jest, but then got to thinking.....surely someone has done it. A bit of googling, and yes, there are some folks that have tried paper patching gas checked bullets. Perhaps someone did this and had success, so then had a custom mould made??

Others here know way more than me....hopefully some of them will chime in.
