I just picked up a nice .308 built on an Springfield 03 action. This was a Match/High power rifle at on time. I would like to get a good cast bullet for this rifle.
With such a short neck and a tight chamber what cast bullet would you use? It has a 1/12" twist.
Any ideas? Any loads you might think would work.
Thanks,
Jon

I'm sure you're going to get lots of opinions/options here, but I like the RCBS 165 SIL in my 1903. The mold casts like a champ, and the bullets shoot extremely well out to and beyond 200 yds.

NOE 310-165-FN XCB . It's THE cast bullet I use for accuracy in my .308W s and '06s.

A couple 10 shot targets at 100 yards of what it does in my 12" twist match .308W.

Best overall accuracy has been with ww alloy sized at .311" using Lyman #314299. Favorable mentions include RCBS 30-180 SP, SAECO #301 and #315 and Lyman #311335.

'Nother vote for the RCBS 165-SIL. My DC mold drops 174 (+/- .5) gr. from Lyman #2 and holds sub-2 MOA out to 300 yds. (if I'm having a good day) from my McGowan-barreled M700.

A lot of good suggestions above.
Whatever mould you decide on, a short body for the short 308 neck and a long bore riding nose for good feeding from your 30/06 length magazine should get you on paper. I note that the designs suggested above generally fit into that category.
As I usually have a bunch of Lyman 311141 (30/30 design) in the loading room, I often shoot that projectile with good results from my short action 308 Remington 660. With its short magazine length, this design functions well, but is not optimum, particularly for a former match rifle like yours.

My favorites are the 311299 and the 311291. Both are classic for the .30-06 and the .308.

I'm having good success at 100 with my RCBS 30-180-SP in my McMillan 1:12 twist barrel using 4985--cleaned the 100-yd traditional targets last time out...

I've been running the same Lee 150 FN in my Rem 700 in 308W & 30Herrett T/C , but im interested in the RCBS 165 Sil. Do the noses fit the bore without sizing the noses separate . I know a lot of shooters size the noses on the 7mm - 145 Sil. I know they will not chamber in my Savage Striker .

The Accurate 31-180V (http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=31-180V-D.png) works great and was designed for the .308
