I have a 43 Egyptian Remington rolling block and have made some brass from 11mm Beaumont brass and actually used some 45 acp cast boolits that I ran thru a .446 sizing die. The gun shoots ok, spins the bullets, no tumbling, but the trigger is ridiculous. What do you do to make it where it is not so hard to squeeze the trigger? I have not shot it much due to that. Also, I have only shot black powder, as this is a #1 that was for BP, so I assume the pressure from smokeless would be too much for it?? Can you have these triggers improved? I see lots of guys talking about their RB and shooting them and I just cannot imagine anyone having triggers this hard to pull enjoying shooting them.

You can try this....or you can work on your original spring, if you're not concerned about keeping all the original parts completely original. There's a ton of info out there about using piano wire to replace heavy springs. It works!

Follow the .43 Spanish thread below, and the links:

The bottom line, is that there are powders like 4198, 3031, and others that have a pressure curve that generates the same or less pressures than even black powder does!
You need a powder that basically has the same rise time and no more pressure than BP has.
If you use those powders, you should be able to shoot smokeless with some level of confidence.
I have yet to shoot any BP in any of my original rifles.
To date, I have loaded for my Danish Remington, and Model 1868 Springfield trapdoor (.50-70).
Best of Luck!

Tom Herman, thanks for the reply. I have a Pedersoli 1874 replica sharps 45-70 and yes, you are right on the other powders that are smokeless. I am shooting my Sharps with 3031 and for 1433fps with 340gr boolits, I am less than 11000 psi. The VERY stout trigger is what makes my rolling blocks not fun to shoot. I may have to try the spring deal to lighten my trigger pull.
