A search on this topic failed to reveal anything for me. I have found the OE 2F giving me better velocity and accuracy with 500+ gr GG loads over Goex Cartridge powder in my 45-70. I haven't yet tried the OE 1.5F powder and was wondering if the larger grains (and slower burning??) was more suited to the 500 to 550 weight bullets. I know that the real answer lies in loading and shooting the 1.5, but was curious what others have experienced.

I have burned a little bit of OE 1.5 in my .45-70 shooting a couple of the Buffalo Arms 530gr Money bullets to 800m. I think the powder gives good performance. It's better than the Goex Cartridge I used to shoot. More velocity, and more consistent shot to shot.

I also use the OE 1.5 granulation in my .40-65, shooting a 400gr Money bullet. It works extremely well in that application.

Great to hear. I bought three cans of Canister that were offered on an estate sale, as I understood that this granulation was the old go-to powder. I have not been impressed though, and thus going back to 2F and going to try 1.5 also.

It used to be what a lot of people used but I think that Goex Express was an improvement over Cartridge when it came out, and Goex Olde Eynsford is an improvement over the Express line.

You will get a bit less velocity out of the 1.5 F assuming you charge the cases with the same weight of powder ( about 10 fps difference). I have one 45-70 that will shoot 1 1/2 very well with a 535 gr bullet, and another that is ambivalent about 2 or 1 1/2 it will shoot with the same accuracy.
1 1/2 does work very well in the 45-90 and the 40-70 ss.
