OK guys and gals, I need your input. I am trying to find a GOOD barrel person to re-bore a Glenfield 30 (made by Marlin, the 336) from 30 caliber to 35 caliber. I have found one source but I am thinking that a couple or more of you have some knowledge of good people to do this.
In case your wondering, I picked up a pretty nice Glenfield this week for a project I have been hankerin' to do for a while. I want to build a 35/30-30 and one of our members has been gracious enough to answer my many questions. I DO NOT want to replace the current barrel, I want to have it rebored. SO how about sharing your combined knowledge of vendors for this project? Attacked is a pic of the Glenfield. Oh yeah, I paid the princely sum of $185 for the project rifle.

Provided the barrel has enough meat, a liner might also work.

I believe Dan Pederson at classic gunworks does reboring. Some of the folks on the ASSRA web site have good things to say about his work. John Taylor does work like this. Hope this helps. Frank

Hi Sir,

I have used Redmans twice I'm pleased as punch! :-D
He is the guy that supplys most liners to the gunsmithing trade!

He rebored a shot out C-96 Mauser back to 7.63 x 25 Mauser and you cannot tell it has been reworked. :)

He also did a second C-96 Mauser to 9 mm x 19 it shoots dead on. this was a rebore. He reamed the barrel & recut the rifling!
I want a quality job. I am a HAPPY to recommend him.
He has a website now.

You can get the job done cheaper but the quality of the job suffers:(

Best to you,

Thanks to all of you that were kind enough to reply. Yeah, I know that the price can be an indication of the quality. I found several on the web but that really is only a self serving advertisement so I figured you all might have had some experience with some of the 'smiths so I could pick from the fellows you recommended. Thanks again.

NOW to get er done!!!!!!!

Jess Ocumpaugh does good work despite charging only $225 + S&H.

BTW - a simple .30-30 rebore will result in a nice .38.55 - just as reloadable as a .35-30, with more power.
A .38-55 will also be 5X more saleable, should things don't work out for you.

I have a 375 Winchester so a 38-55 isn't of much interest to me. As far as resale, when I croak, let the family worry about it. Never have I been one to worry about what my project would bring if it didn't work out. I have a 7x57 Ackley, a 221 Fireball rifle, (2) 218 Mashburn Bee (one on a low wall), a 358 Norma Magnum, and a 22 SuperJet rifle. Like I said, don't care about resale.

Actually the biggest reason for my project (other than I just wanna) is it looks to me like the long neck and the veocity range would make a dandy cast boolit rifle.
Thanks for the thought though.

+1 for Redman's...

Winchester Highwall 32/20 relined to K-Hornet. They even recommended insuring it for an astonomical amount when I shipped it...
