View Full Version : Ejector Pin Spring

I have a Steven's Model 200 in .300 Winchester Magnum for a little over a year now. In that time the ejector pin spring has broke twice now.
The first time I called the factory, they sent me another one with no problem.
The second time I called the factory, they sent me another one but was told not to shoot reloads, factory loaded rounds only because reloads have more pressure and that is what keeps breaking the spring.
???????
The ejector pin can only get pushed in so far. That is only to the head of the bolt. I don't see how even way to hot of a load can make any difference. Has anyone had any experience like this or even herd of this being the case?
I only load strictly to the book. Speer book and Speer bullets.
Loads are

180 gr. bullets over Re 19 72.0-76.0 gr., Re 22 73.0-77.0 and
200 gr. bullets over Re 22 69.0-73.0 gr.

Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.

Sounds like hockey puckey to me.

I agree with your analysis, but . . . .

I'd take a snug fitting drill bit and by HAND spin it inthe plunger hole
and clean foreign matter that might be making the spring overcompress.

You should measure the depth of the hole, the length of the plunger
and the "solid" length of the spring. You should find that the sum of
the solid length of the spring plus the plunger is significantly shorter than
the depth of the hole. You might even have a chunk of old spring in there.

You might ask the factory how long the plunger is supposed to be and
how deep the hole is supposed to be. They might even give you an
answer.

Good luck.
