9mm brass

I have a couple gallons of 9mm that is sized and un primed. Does a guy need a spent primmer in them to make 40 cal bullets or is it a non issue. That little flash hole wouldn't be an issue would it?.

I leave the primer in when swaging. This is purely speculative, but I think it keeps the lead in the case better since I do not have to fill up the primer pocket before the lead flows through the bleed off holes.

I do find that the primer will separate from the case when shot and I get strange looks from people when they look at the target and find the small hole.

Depending on the alloy you are using for a core and how much pressure you need to apply to form the projectile, you may get some alloy squirting into the primer pocket, if it fills up, that's fine, if it doesn't, you'll have a void, and possibly a unbalanced projectile. For that reason, I always left the spent primer intact.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^What JohnB said, For the precision shooting that Duke and I do we want the Primmers in. It does effect the weight of the boolit, sometime its as much as 3 grains.

I leave them in, simply because when I anneal the brass the core is already in the case/jacket, and I don't want the lead running out the flash hole. My process bonds the core to the jacket without the use of flux.

I sized these and de caped them years ago to reload but don't shoot my 9mm's that much any more. I figured I would sacrifice them for 40 cal bullets. I will wait till I process some 223 and blackout brass and save the spent primers.

I leave the primers in. 99.99999 % of them make it to the target.

That I know of, I haven't lost a primer yet. I collect as many as I can and inspect for performance. I swage for 40/10mm, 44, and 45.
I think my next project will be soldering the lead to the case to deter separation. Possibly during the annealing. That might help retain primers also.
Anyone else doing that?
