I have a new to me nm 45 Blackhawk. I opened up the forcing cone with a Brownells cutter. I started shooting some cast round nose flat point RCBS 45-250's, I didn't notice any lead spray? I just bought a used RCBS 45-255 KT. Cast some yesterday, when I shot them today, I noticed some knead spray? It seems logical, just didn't expect it? I will shoot for accuracy in the next couple of weeks, have high hopes for this mold.

Plain base? Alloy? Could be gas cutting on the boolit base from a soft alloy. If you let them age harden, it might decrease the spraying a bit or altogether.

It is a plain base design, alloy is 2/3 coww, 1/3 soww, plus 1.5 % tin. Sized to .452 and lubed with Tac 1.

How hard are you trying to push them. Higher pressure can cause a bit more gas cutting on bases. Maybe back off the load or allow them to age harden. Harder alloy maybe. I dunno.

I don't think I am pushing them hard, over 6 grains of Green Dot. That should be about 850 fps? I will let them age a bit, try a lighter crimp, and run them over my chronograph next time out. THANKS FOR THE REPLIES! Tom

Make sure the timing is correct on your revolver. Misalignment of the cylinder\barrel will cause spitting.

Last weekend I spent some time loading for the .45 colt. Decided I should run a patch thru since I had it out. Lo and behold, there was a ring of leading deposited forward of the forcing cone? I will check it again before I shoot the semi wad cutters again. Hoping for some better weather this weekend to shoot some loads over the chrono and attempt to evaluate accuracy. hc18flyer
