hey everyone, has anyone used unique powder under a 405 gn cast boolit for 45/70 marlin 1895 guide gun?

Unique works well for duplicating the old US Army cavalry load, the 45/55/405 cartridge which had a velocity of about 1,100 fps.

Here is some data from my loading notes:

405 grain Lee hollow base round nose
WW cases with a firm roll crimp
Remington 9 1/2 primer
13 grains of Unique

Average: 1116 fps Es: 23 Sd: 8 1/2

Accuracy through my H&R OM Trapdoor is only 3 MOA or so. Other powders will reduce that to an honest 2 MOA out to a couple of hundred yards.

For duplicating the infantry load, the 45/70/405 cartridge at 1,300 fps, you'll be better off with a slower powder like 4759 or 4198, although 4895 will do a good job too.
