My 39A sometimes feeds flawlessly. Then once in a while, it will lock up when I cycle a round through. I have to loosen up the side screw, wiggle the gun, hold my mouth funny, turn the gun upside down, dance a little jig, and then I can close the lever.

When empty, it feels very smooth and a lot od times it feeds very smooth. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Crabo

I have about five 1897's and 39a's and I find that if I don't eject the fired case with enough force I get the same problem.

I'd check for loose screws for the finger lever, finger lever spring, and cartridge cut-off, as well as gum and powder residue inside the action. The screw for the finger lever spring is on the bottom just forward of the lever pivot, the screw for the cartridge cutoff is about the middle of the receiver on the left side.
