SG Ammo has cases of 3250 rounds Federal Automatch .22 LR bulk packed for $179.50 plus shipping (estimated $16.00). That's $6.01 per hundred. Doesn't go bad (well, I don't store it in the barn, Texas summers wouldn't help it) and while I don't know where the price will go, I don't think I'll ever see penny per round .22 LR again in my remaining lifetime (or anyone else's).

That is my favorite ammo for my Ruger Mk III 22/45's.

But I am sitting on a fair stash. Good price though, thanks for sharing.

Decided it was worth talking it over with the wife. Seems she has not wanted to shoot often as she was afraid of depleting my supply. So we just dropped the hammer on a case.

Thanks for the tip!

Yes, everything is better locally now than even three months ago!
The place down the road had Fed Auto match for 17.95/box and the shelve stays full.
Lots of choice by going to a few stores too.
My Eley Match I still order bulk and pay shipping. Always did.

Lets hope this is for eight years and not just four!
Still - I am going to tuck away even more than last time. I did not get caught short then either but cut down some.
Leaving some 22 for my kin when I go is not a bad thing.

None at Walmart, but most of the gunshops have it...but I ain't buying.

Matter of fact, at the current price or higher like it will be in the future, I don't plan to ever buy another round.

I have shifted to centerfire for everything that I did with rimfire...I will just cast and loaded'em for the job at hand and they can keep the .22.

We've got it at Walmart here.... but I'll continue the sentiment shoot-n had. I have shifted to centerfire for everything that I did with rimfire....

Except it's still illegal to hunt squirrel here using a centerfire rifle (outside of deer season).

I was in a local hardware store today and they had lots of 22lr ammo on the shelves with no limits. The best buy was Federal auto match at 17.99. About 5.5 cent a round. I can't load even my cheap 9mm or 38 specials for less than that.
The department manager said he thought the prices would come down further. I'm all for that.

I haven't seen 22 at my local Wally forever. I just found out they almost always have it, they just hide it under the counter. You have to ask for it.

My case of .22lr arrived yesterday morning.

3250 rounds for 195$ total including shipping.
By my calculator comes out to 6 cents a round. Sitting back feeling good sipping my morning coffee. End of the World as we know it? Who cares? I'm ready.

give it time. I think this is true but do wonder about the pressure going the other way, toward taxing heavily or restricting ammo purchase or quantities. All the proposals in that direction so far have been either never brought to a vote just an opportunity to do some posing for the camera and courting voters with the bill they "introduced". Or were tabled without going anyplace because the votes weren't there to pass it. Still the hard core anti-gun people know there are more guns then they can confiscate in 20 years but less than 3 years worth of ammo.

I have other bulk purchases ahead of .22's and do hope I can find a good (or better) deal than this when I eventually decide to stock up on this commodity. Last box I bought was 500 for $50 out the door, taxes included. Still cost more than I can load .38 special for.

This last dry spell (powder, primers, 22 ammo) has been so nasty that I have leaped on deals as they arise; including this one. I just took delivery of two cases, 6500 rounds. Along with the CCI Mini-Mag solids I've put by, I'm done with 22s for now, likely forever. Have also topped off with primers and powder over the last couple of years. Waiting for prices to drop further seems to me like trying to time the stock market. I had the money, so I bought the components and ammo and do not intend to suffer this way again. No more worries, unless a squirrel chews some wires in the storage area...

I started out with some stock ......
I haven't hardly had a 22 out in 5 yr . Most of my stash was 550 Federal and CCI Blazer and 525 Win Xpert marked $9.99 ........

Last fall I broke down and bought 1000 Agula at $49/500.
Yesterday I got a 1 day only Big 5 email coupon for 555 Winchesters at $33 ea . I bought them both . $.064 after tax .

I got so excited I went and dug out the 53B for my granddaughter .
I guess we'll shoot up the oldest stuff first .

I just purchased 12k rds at 5.6 cents a round for Federal match bulk boxed.
If it drops to 4 cents then I will buy another 10k.
My kids do a lot of shooting.
I wish subsonic would come down as well.

I'm hopeful bulk will come back down to 5cpr, and will wait for it as I'm stocked up for now. But have my doubts it'll come down to 4cpr. Familiar with the Overton Window?

I was curious so I checked Bud's gun shop prices on .22lr over the weekend.

Prices ranged from 0.051 cents per to over 10 depending on the exact ammo.
Lots of federals in the 5-6 cent range.

We decided we have enough for now, I'm stacked wide and deep.
But if your not, now is the time to buy. Buy in bulk.

I have a bunch of it I purchased when it came on sale and 22lr was scarce. Not bad ammo. Not the best. Better than Thunderbolts for sure. I was shooting some for practice yesterday in my CZ455 American.
It is accurate enough for squirrels to 50 yards.

I can make em for about 1 cent per round. If you don't count the labor.
P.S. lefty o, I just noticed your avatar looks like the ship is throwing a depth charge (the cast boolit above it) ...looks very cool.

You can leave all those Thunderbolts for me. They are outstanding in my Remington 510's and 580's. And the stash of Remington Subsonic's I have is outstanding in the CZ452 Varmint.

Hope it will be down some the time I will need some and that is going be some time now since I have enough to last me for some time.I mainly use it for the trap line.if it gets to about $20 a brick of 525 I will be happy.but I know for how it looks I will be lucky to see that price again.

I suppose you all have heard the old story about the farmer who bullseyes all over on his fences out where he shot, each one with a bullet hole dead center. Someone asks him how he got to be such a great shot. Easy, he says, I just draw the bullseye after the shot!

I have bought around 20,000 rounds for 4 to 5 cents a round. I don't think it will get much lower.

I think you're right. For various reasons I think that once the shelves stay stocked for a while and everyone has had their fill, the real market price for cheap 22lr will probably be around 4 cents.

Everything is always more expensive here.
But I remember buying Blazers for $9.99 a brick.
Used to buy a case at a time.
These days, they won't sell by the case.
Only a brick a day.
Wish those day would come back.

The local Walmart has a stack of Winchester M22 ammo, $50 per box of 1,000. Anyone shoot this ammo? Any good?Hopefully the newer production is good.
At the beginning of the last draught I bought 2 of the 1k packs, all the store had, and the last I saw for a long time.
This ammo made up most of my 22 stash.

Right after I bought them winchester had a recall on m22. Broke open the boxes and mine was a different lot number, so I thought I was good.

The next year I took my daughter to an Appleseed and brought the m22.
Multiple low powered failure to ejects and one squib that I swear I saw smoke and the bullet dribble out of the barrel.

Checked for an obstruction and changed ammo

Winchester sent a shipping label and then a check, but I sure would have rather had 2000 rounds of safe 22.

Ammo quality during that time sure went downhill.

Just worked a youth shoot this year, using mixed donated 22.
Lots of squibs and at least 1 obstructed barrel, in well less that 1k rounds fired.

A year ago I finally found "golden bullets" for $35 per brick iirc....picked up a few bricks to carry me through for awhile as I currently don't shoot a lot of .22's, few weeks back I picked up 2 bricks of "thunderbolts"....those leaded up my semi pistol pretty quick. I think those will be strictly single shot and bolt action ammo.

Maybe someday I'll take the plunge and lay in a supply of CCI mini mags for ultra reliable .22 ammo but for now the bulk stuff does well.

Just back from British Columbia, the sporting goods stores there had an amazing selection of centerfire and .22. For some reason I always thought much of that was essentially unobtainable there.

Late 70's early 80's I noticed that my then favorite Rem .22lr in the clear yellow 100 round box were starting to gum up my mag's.

I have not bought Remington ammo since.

CCI, Winchester, Federal all seem mostly ok. Perhaps not quite what they were but close. The whole .22lr scarcity thing got me to hang up my rimfire's mostly and play with other stuff.

This week it is .45 Colt. 200 new Winchester Brass, a new Lee 6 cavity mold, and a set of .45colt dies.

Tommorow is a casting day, got 200 empty's to fill and it is nice to have a few extra's.

We'll see how it goes. The new Lee 6 cavity is cleaned and ready to roll. Cases are primed.

Most likely going to be looking at Red Dot for this first batch. Probably in the 6 to 6.6 gr range. .452 230 gr TC alloy roughly 50/50 range scrap and COWW with 1% tin added.

We'll see how it goes.

Remington thunderbolts...
I have many one shot groups.

The target I posted above is one of 25 on a USBR 50 meter benchrest target. More than one shot on a single bull would disqualify it just as one with no shot. The 10 ring is 1/8" in diameter and there are 25 shots for record. That target was shot in a match with Remington Subsonics from the CZ 452 that I mentioned in the previous post.
