So I nabbed these today and once I discovered they were used as ballast in a racecar I asked what the source of the lead was and was told mostly WW with a few pieces of bar lead? So I shall melt and test to see what I got for sure! All in all I am happy!

A while back I got some race car ballast that was pretty well laced with zinc. Since racers have cutting torches, figure your ballast was melted with a torch and no care was taken to sort the zinc out. I treated it with copper sulfate and worked it in with other lead until it was gone.

Is there a way to test it, at home, for zinc?

I read that a drop or two of muriatic on the lead will fizz and bubble if zinc is present.

Yep, hydrochloric acid will fizz on zinc. Please do it so we know what the end to the story is. Figers crossed for you.

Looks like a nice score! I would defiantly do the acid drop test on them though. Hoping its all good stuff.
