I've been thinking on getting a lyman ezee trim. I like what I see about it. My main question is about the fixed length that it trims to. Specifically... what is the length it trims 30-30 to?

Does it generally trim to the lyman suggested minimum length for each cartridge? Less that that? Max length? Somewhere in between?

Any other thoughts about this tool would be appreciated.

In my experience they trim to minimum SAAMI lengths. I really like this system, it's stupid simple and very consistent. I just wished they made a pilot for .41 mag. It's also a relatively fast system to use if your trimming a lot.

I started with the Lee trimming system many years ago and it fit my needs fine. But out of curiosity I bought a Lyman Ezee Trim kit and found it to work easier and better than the Lee tool (It's easier to turn the case than the cutter and square mouths are easier to obtain). I just ordered my Lyman 30-30 stud so I can't give you an answer to your question, but mebbe in a few days...

jetinteriorguy, If im not mistaken, there isnt a minimum case length for the 30-30, or any cartridge for that matter. There is a listed maximum, but all the trim to lengths are suggestions.

mdi. It would be interesting to know what it trims to, should you be in the notion to fiddle when you get the new pilot.

I have no direct experience with 30-30, I do check my .223 and 7.62x39 using Wilson gauges and they do have a minimum and maximum length built in and I guess that's more what I meant as opposed to SAAMI specs. Thanks for the clarification, my Lyman pilots trim to max length according to these gauges. I also agree that the Lyman system works better than the Lee system.

Well, I found a Lee trim stud for 30-30 and my cases measured 2.032" after trimming. Still waiting on my Lyman stud. SAAMI case length for 30-30 is 2.0395", -.020"...

Thanks for the info. Should be easy enough to make the length shorter, by grinding the tip of the pilot a smidge.

For my info only, why do you need the case shorter?

I dont need to. I just dont want to vary from the 2.028 length that i like. No reason othern orneriness I reckon.
