Just found out yesterday that USPS had a flat large rate box.
It's 24'x12'x3'
Same price as the large flat rate.
They keep it in the back, so I had to ask for it.

Yes, I would say that this box is not going to fit very well in any lobby. Perhaps you meant inches not feet?

yep, and they also have 'regional' flat rate boxes that can save ya a few bucks if it's not goin' over 2 or 3 'mail zones' away.

All the boxes are listed on their website. They deliver them to your house at no charge. I don't bother going to the PO to pick them up because they never have them in stock.

Not worth it at all. The Regional boxes are best for 2-3 zones at the most.

Price has gone up. True, if it fits it ships but still cheaper then your own box.

they put weight limits on them.
you can't stuff 120 lbs of lead in a box
well you can,,, but they won't take it.

Better check the PO. A lot of changes lately in rates, shipping etc.

Limit is still 70#s. Rates went up. And lots of changes in commercial/non-commercial shippers.

FRB are the cheapest option if what you're shipping weighs a lot. For small items that weigh little using your own box is cheaper. And by that I mean use UPS. The RRB aren't any cheaper unless you're shipping fairly close to home. If you look at the zones you're usually shipping across three or more which drives up the cost.

Yep! I do the same. Used to pick them up as I figure it's free I can put a little effort into it. But after needing a box to ship something to family one weekend and having to visit 4 different locations to finally get a small flat rate box.... I realized it was time to do something differently!

Don't wait till ya need them. Pick up a couple next time you are near. And a roll of tape at the same time.

For instance, Regional A size. a little smaller than medium flat rate is about $9 , Florida to Michigan. Medium Flat rate is $13 something. I just had one of each to go recently. Regional A size is 20 lb limit though. I think the regional B size can save a little too and it is almost identical to the Medium Flat rate box.

I pick some up whenever I'm at the Post Office so I have a few of each size in case I need them.
